Chapter 5 :

An unverified guide to - Relating To Teens

Now, prior to what you thought, it doesn’t require an in-depth understanding of what “lit” or “turnt up” means. Teens are fairly easy to understand. Because, behind the 18 layers of Maybelline and the death metal T-shirts, they all have one thing in common.

They’re all lost.

Now, of course, none of them will tell you this but take it from a teen.   85% of the time we have no idea what we’re doing. The other 15% we’re usually sleeping. With a head full of dreams and heart full of cynicism, being a teen is hard. No doubt. But relating to them is fairly easy.

It’s really only about one thing – listening without judgment.

You don’t have to relate. You don’t even have to understand. You just need to listen and care. And we will notice when you do. The teens are times of emotional turbulence, and it can be invaluable to us if we there is a person who is always there to listen. Now, keep in mind, this doesn’t mean they will always be open about everything. But, by cultivating an environment of free speech and acceptance, anyone can build a healthy relationship with the dark, brooding kid who secretly knows the choreography to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and owns fluffy unicorn slippers.
