Chapter 1 :

Third Person Commentary

Sometimes we’re so obsessed with how we portray ourselves, we forget who we actually are. We lose our identity in a swirl of likes, retweets, and comments, that we forget to be actual people, who exist beyond the pixels. A social media frosting, for the sad and depressing cake that is our life. Soon, you look around and figure out that you aren’t special. You aren’t a princess or a superhero, like everyone told you, at age 6. You’re normal and boring. But, so is everyone around you.

Nothing is special or new. No one is who they say they are and soon you realize that chocolate starts to fatten you up. I’m not here to say “the world is cruel.” You know that. I’m saying you are part of it. You are cruel, and that’s okay. Because so is everyone else. Now, you may be looking for some uplifting “love conquers all” sentiment. But it doesn’t. Love doesn’t conquer all. It is very much like the humans who feel it – fickle, fragile and cruel.

It has beautiful exterior though.

That’s it. That’s the truth. You are ugly and cruel, whether or not you consciously choose to be. And that’s okay.

Because so is everyone else.
