Later, the family realises that Helen’s husband had been gambling and was the cause of Helen’s troubles. Mrs Kumar’s family discourage her from worrying about Helen as they feel Helen should have taken them into confidence regarding her problems. Moreover, as she was treated like a family member by the Kumars, they are hurt that she disappeared without giving them an explanation. Finally, after realising that her daughters too have lost hope, Mrs Kumar decides to go in search of Helen and her daughter, Jennifer. The story emphasizes the need for us to care, respect and show gratitude to those who help us.
