PROLOGUE Veni looked at her watch.It was time for her rounds.She was starving.She hadn’t had food for the past few hours.Now she could have them only after the rounds.She took her coat and steth and got ready for her rounds. ‘Doctor,there is an urgency,please come to the ICU’,nurse called her out. ‘I have my rounds now.’ ‘Doctor Dr.Natasha is on leave,you are left with no choice.’ Veni let a huge suspire.She was tired even to think properly,she didn’t want to fight;so she decided to go. ‘I am coming.’ She walked out of her room and headed towards the ICU.Being the eve of Christmas,almost everyone was on leave,that left her with no choice.No choice than to take care of her patient.Yes,that was what she was born for,she was born to be a doctor. ‘What is the case?’Veni asked. ‘RTA’ ‘Oh!!!How bad is the patient?’ ‘Really bad,his body is too weak and his parents have come .’ ‘Oh God.Be fast then,don’t waste time.’ The door of the ICU opened and Veni wore her gloves,it took a second for her to discern the face,a very accustomed face. 12 YEARS BACK CHAPTER 1 ‘Sh...sh......’Veni tried not to look back,but the sound,yeah she heard it.She tried to neglect it and listen to the math teacher. ‘Sh....sh.....can’t you hear me?’Veni was sure she heard the sound this time.Someone from the back bench was trying to call her.She looked at her watch.Ten minutes for bell.That won’t be too bad.She decided to ignore it for rest of the few minutes too.The sound was still there but she acted as if she didn’t hear. Bell rang. ‘You......how many times should I call you?Are you deaf or what?’ ‘Are you supposed to call me in classtime?Teacher was there you know?’ ‘Oh madam which class are you in class fourth?or KG?Madam you are in class 12th.Okay?’ ‘Oh really!Thankyou for making me realize that.I owe you.’Boys of these kind always pissed her off.She didn’t have time for these kind of people.She was always rude and sarcastic to them not that she was like that,but she wanted people to think she was bold and brave and feared none. ‘Look.......My notebook is on your table,I was calling you for that.’ ‘What?’Veni turned to her table.’One.two .......’yes there was an extra notebook that was not hers. ‘Is this yours?’Veni asked. ‘Yes.How did it end up on your table?’ ‘I was going to ask you the same question.How did it end up on my table?’ ‘Okay.First you take my notebook and then say this to me.Great.’ ‘Hello I don’t need your notebook okay?’Take this and just don’t mess with me.’ Bell rang and teacher came in. ‘Good morning children.’ ‘Good morning Madam.’Varsha Madam took english.She was loved by all.She was one of those amazing teachers who loved what they did and always inspired their children to be a better person. ‘Hey girls and boys........welcome to a new month of our academic year.I think you all have kickstarted your year with great expectations.And yes,this is a very crucial year in all your lives.Study well and enjoy what you do.So we aren’t having further talking.Today I am going to group you guys into a team of three,and yes all your classes you will do your work teamwise.I think this will make our classes more of fun.Afterall when you are tired of math,physics and chemistry,you know english will give you some rest.So let’s get started children.I will call your register number. Veni was thinking about the next days work when teacher called out her number. ‘Number thirty nine,number fifteen and number twenty.’ Veni stood up and waved at Natasha,she was her best friend.She turned out to see the third one in their group. ‘Oh God.’Veni actually whispered to herself as she saw the same fidgety boy she fought with. Natasha moved towards Veni’s bench.’See I am very lucky today’Natasha said. ‘Why?Because we both are in the same team?’ ‘Yes and see who is in our team Sayand.Oh God!!He is so insanely handsome.’ ‘What?Sayand?Is that his name?’Veni asked and even before Natasha could reply she turned back to look at him.’Kind of good not really handsome’she thought to herself. ‘You call him handsome?’ ‘Obviously’ ‘You are delirious?Wait I am not going to sit with him.You sit in the center.Okay?’ ‘My pleasure.’ Sayand came and shook hands with both of them.Veni nodded in response and he smiled. Natasha winked at her.Natasha and Veni were kind of twins.Before she met Natasha,Veni never thought she would have a best friend,she never had.She was happy to have someone like Natasha who really cared about her,made no judgements and had almost the same thoughts on love,life and friendship.It was very rare for her to get a best friend with same mental disorder or the same high frequency wavelength.She did get one. ‘Sorry for the incident in the morning.Actually Anil kept it on your table while distributing books.’Sayand said. Veni nodded. ‘Hey c’mon I said sorry.’ ‘Its okay.’ ‘So,children,your first task toghether is to write about an international author and review any three of his books.And rest of this period is upto you for discussion’ ‘Great.’Veni grinned ear to ear. ‘Wow,seems like you love books.’Sayand said. ‘Yes.She loves books.She is an obsessive compulsive reader.She has got a humongous collection of books.’ ‘Wow that’s nice.’ ‘Listen,can we do Murakami?’Veni asked. ‘I haven’t read him.’Natasha said. ‘Is he a writer?’Sayand asked. ‘Listen Veni ,you do these work later.Now we will talk.‘Natasha said. ‘You are crazy.’ ‘So are you.’ *** Schools rarely reopened on Fridays.But this time it did.Veni loved Mondays,after two big days they were coming to school,she was a nerd,who never thought anything beyond studies and a good job to live a life.She enjoyed it too.Monday came with a lot of happiness for her. Veni sat on her chair,thinking about the assignment they had to do. ‘Hey,good morning.’that was Sayand. ‘Morning.’ ‘Yeah,I wanted you to see this,I googled about a few books of the authour you said and I choose one.I wrote about Wild Sheep Chase.I never used to read,but I really liked this author and I am obviously reading more.You should give me some suggestions.You just see this,its just rough,but if you approve I can write it properly for the assignment. Kririka smiled.She didn’t know why but she was having a strange feeling that the boy was trying to impress her and she kind of liked it too.The moment she realized what she was thinking she just pushed it aside on her brain. ‘Yes, I will tell you.And thanks for taking efforts for the team.’ ‘Our team.’ She smiled.And she tried to hide it immediately.She shook her head and opened her book. Navaneeth’s diary Dear diary, It was such a shitty day at college today.We had some issue with the first year civil students and we were all screwed.I don’t know how I will wrap this up without telling mom and dad.They never understand whatever I try to tell them.I don’t get these people.How are they not concerned about their child at all?God knows.I hope Veni finds a way for me as she always does.I miss her.A lot.Maybe she is missing me too.I have to call her anyway,I have to tell this to her she will surely find me a way.
